A little about
Crete
We were there in
June - a beautiful place, the weather was pleasant (the water not so
hot).
We drove around
on a moped and by car, to the west side of Crete, and a trip south to
Paleohora and around inside mainland, where there are many small villages.
The landscape is
dashing and with many flowers in this season.
The city Chania
with the old harbour, the market Agora and the tourist "shopping streets"
etc. Its a charming city to walk around in.
We lived in
Platanias about 14 km from Chania, there is good bus
connections.
In Platanias
there are many taverns, souvenir shops, supermarkets, and one kafenion plus
a good/nice beach.
Herning Rejser,
Agapi 2.rooms apartment in Platanias, lovely apartments, be attentive upon, that there
can be noise, if You stay out to the street (traffic/music bar), but if You
can live with it, number.12 is the greatest apartment - large balcony and
partially sea view.

Georgioupolis
2002
(and nearly every summer since our first visit)
|
|
Georgioupolis 2002 - in this summer, we had only one trip to Greece - we had sold our big house and moved into a smaller - preparing us for our 3.th youth - so we have been working all summer in our new home, and were just waiting for a "relaxing vacation" in September month.
|
|
In August I was unlucky to press my rib's, so I was "deported" to Greece
9 days before the original vacation - One way ticket with Startour. I was a little bit afraid to stay alone - how could I go out eating just myself etc.
And how is
it to be alone ?? I don't know, I got some unusual nice neighbours, Lotte & Erik, the had visit Georgioupolis before, and knew the town. Together we went out eating every night - tasted dry and wet stuff,
so we could be sure not to give my husband anything that was not good when he arrived - ha ha.
Also I must admit that the Ouzo had a healthy effect to my ribs - hm-hm and be ensure, that there not was served something Leif not coulde drink, when he arrived, hm. hm. - But still I missed him very much !

|
The town is not very big, but there is anyway many good tavern, cafe's, bar and some supermarkets - Anna's supermarket by platia, is cheap and have a large selection, and Anna always has en good remark to you. The beach is children friendly and long, by "city beach" lies a little camper, owned by Vassilis and Janoula, here You can rent sun beds and buy sodas, beers and sandwich. It was also here I met John and Ingrid from Århus, they knew Georgioupolis quite well, so I got many good ideas where to eat etc. - thank You.

We had a car for 3 days, and went down to Agia Gallini on south coast - on the drive out, we took a small road, and we met almost no cars, it was a delicious trip with many stops. |
|
Other days we went around on a scooter, in all the area and found a small delicious tavern down by coast - it was really surprising for us to find so many lovely, quiet spots so close to the big overcrowded tourist areas - Rethymnon and Chania.
|
|
In
Georgioupolis area there are many little villages to visit, and of course the Kournos lake - there is a little train from Georgioupolis to the lake or You can hire a taxi.
|
|
By lake there is several taverns, water bikes and rentals of sun beds, so You can spend a day up there swimming.
Rethymnon
we also visit, BUT here are many tourist, and if You want to walk around the harbour, it's between the tables on the many taverns, and the waiter there try to hijack customers - we did not find that comfortable
- after this is was heavenly to come "home" to Georgioupolis.

|
Down
beloved I have collected different impression from Georgioupolis, etc. the fish auction and the baker, where they still make the bread in a stone own. Georgioupolis is situated between Chania and Rethymnon, and there is good bus connection to both towns.

We
felt we had a delicious vacation, and can recommend the place, we think You will find relaxed atmosphere here.
