LESVOS - SOUTH Clik here

Lesvos North

Anaxos

We lived on the northern part of the island, in a little village Anaxos about
15 km from Molivos.
Anaxos is in the country, but anyway were here many taverns - enough differently to 14 days - we became however addicted to "Mutsos" tavern which were situated on the beach, GOOD/NICE food and for nearly no money.

Molivos city is protected, all new buildings must be the same old style, an exciting city to walk in - many tourists - and the castle which is the trade mark of Molivos .

A "must" is Sea Horse in Molivos at the picturesque small harbour, here You can sit and enjoy the view.
Petra which is situated 5 km from Anaxos, has a dashing church, which lies on a rock.
INSIDE Petra are several taverns and affairs.

There is good capabilities to drive trips to among Mytillini city, the fossilized forest etc.
In Anaxos there are shopping possibilities of common daily goods.
The beach is nice.
Larsen Rejser, Rania, 1.room apartment. (small) with bath/toilet very small balcony
(only a mini mirror in bathroom.)
PS Now Larsen Rejser do not have Anaxos on their program.

Lesvos South

Plomari

May 1999, 2 weeks on Lesvos. The weather was changing, days with sun and days with clouds, however not rain.

This time we werw on south coast. We had booked a small apartment in Agios Isodores, but it was early to season, so not altogether/everything tavern duck affairs had open yet, so we moved in two Plomari city.

Plomari is a charming town, and known as Island "Ouzo Capital", and here You can walk around in small streets/stairs between houses from 1800-century.

We can recommend two rent automobile duck actuate around Island, e.g. first east to Mytilini city, then up along the coast to Skala Sikaminias, Molyvos (the Islands tourist capital), Petra, the fossilized forest near Sigri, where You can find a hotel/room for the night.

Return to Plomari via Skala Eressos up along Kalloni golf. Across mountain village Agiassos with the small narrow and steep streets, and close to the highest mountain Olympos 968 m.

So down to Plomari, some of the road (about 11 km) are dirt road, but a trip with charming view (close the windows for the dust).

In the capital Mytilini there also are many things worth seeing, also You will find the very long shopping street.

The Bus connections on Lesvos is not very good, there is 3-4 departures to Mytilini on week days, and from here buses to other locations on the Island. The road system is not so developed yet, so it is easy/faster to go around in a rented automobile.

Car rental - take care ! We have not earlier in Greece experience so miserable vehicles - especially by Oceanis. At Dimitris in Agios Isodores a little better, BUT remember to check brakes and steering - and do take a test drive.

Tavern PARADEISOS (Paradisos) in Agios Isodores is a place where the food is good.

XAPAMA (Mama Papas) Agios Isodores, which lie in a road curve to Mytilini city (5 min. at foot) , is a small family run tavern.

BAKOS behind to the Oceanis hotel in Plomari can also highly recommended.

BUT remember, ask always what they have cooked today, then You will be invited in the kitchen to see what there are in pots and pans.

We also dined in other locations, and altogether we have eaten good and nice food.

The Plane tree square in Plomari is a nice place/spot to relax, eat/drink something or just to finish in the evening with a coffee and Metaxa.

SERAFINO BAR, where the host Dimitri often start playing on his Bouzuki, and one night we had the experience some of the local Greek people was singing and dancing to.

Star Tour, Viki in Agios Isodores, 1.room apartment, long and abrupt hill and stairs up to Viki. Good/nice beach with pebble and rock.

Star Tour, Irini in Plomari, 1.room apartment (quite small), abrupt hill or stairs up to the apartments.

Good kitchen equipment, among others a coffee machine and miniowen, but here it is clear You pay for the place Irini is situated.

Book with sea view - both places !

There is a small pebble beach underneath Irini.

Taxi from Plomari to Agios Isodores cost: 800 - 1000 Drachmer.
