A
little about Rhodes
So the trip came to
Rhodes - we had not visited the island earlier, because we had heard there
should be a lot of tourists. There are many affairs for tourists
and lot of taverns, where there is a "catcher" (waiter) outside to get
customers. We became despite these things, positive surprised, and first
in May month there are not so many tourists, the weather is what one can
expect in this season - sun and a little rain, but fine to go and see a
lot of things, and Rhodes city has many things to offer.
Inside the Old city
which is surrounded of a great wall, You can walk around in the small
streets for hours, among other things The Knights Palace, in Politikens
(Danish) "The trip goes to the Greek islands" there is a map and
short/brief description of things and buildings. The new part of Rhodes
offers You some experiences, and if You get a little hungry, it is an
experience to go on the market - Nea Agora, and buy a Gyros or Souvlaki
with a glass Retsina.
Lindos is situated
56 km from Rhodes, and to come up on Acropolis You walk through them many
small narrow streets inside "The white city", before You on foot or on
donkey come up to the ancient area. On the way up You will meet Greek
females who sell (home-made ?) clothes. The walk will then be rewarded
with a magnificent view etc. The Athena Lindias temple.
South of Lindos the landscape is
flat, follow the main road who pass through the village Katavia, and soon
You are on the west coast of Rhodes.
It can be very blowing on the
west coast, but we think the landscape there is dashing, with many small
villages You/one can visit on the way back to Rhodes town.
Not far from Rhodes city
(scooter) there are many villages You can go to - away from all the
tourists.
Hotel Kipriotis,
Spies beautiful hotel rooms with refrigerator and sea view towards west (sea view cost
extra). Very nice and helpfully staff.
