Santorini

A little about Santorini

Santorini one little extra trip first in October month with depart from Tirstrup, Århus airport Sunday morning.
From the airport on Santorini there is only about fifteen min. drive to Kamari where we should stay. Santorini (island where you say all postcard are from)
is situated in the Cyclades, so here is almost always some wind.

The Island is not very big 75 km2, so a scooter is fine to go around on.
Santorini has a dramatic story with Vulcan eruption and earthquake.
Coast courage West has a fantastic sight with the steep crater walls, who
rises itself 300 m over sea, so there is" high down" some place.
Here on the west coast You have a big view over the volcanic Islands  Kameni and Thirassia.
South You can visit the excavation  - Akrotiri - which have been dexcavated from the  volcanic ash - the town is 3500  years old.

In Kamari You can take a bus, taxi or a donkey up to the antique Thira, which is situated on the mountain Mèsa Vouno.

The main city Fira is situated on the west coast, and by crater edges,
and this  is a great experience to walk around there, near the edges and in the small narrow streets - with and without staircases.
It is possibility to go down to harbor Skala of the 580 steps, or take the aerial railway or donkey.

Car ferries to the Island you can find in the new port Athinios south of Fira, and the road down to the harbor is very steep and wriggle, but definite a trip worth.

There are many beautiful churches and houses in Fira,
gold shops and souvenir shops, and its recommended that You one evening
see sunset there - come in good time - it is incredible beautiful.
We chosed a little cafe, where we could enjoy the beautiful sight with classic music in background.

OIA, the most visited place/town on Santorini and here they say You will find the most beautiful sunset in the world. So here all the travel companies goes.
We visit Oia at daytime 2 times, and beautiful it is - sure - and a good idea to  have Your lunch here.
Houses and the many churches is very very nice. All new paints in many
elegant colors - so bring a lot of film - You will take many photos here.
In both towns - Fira and Ioa - there's many tourists.

Kamari where we stayed has a long seafront, with many taverns, cafés and music bars, here first in October they begin to close down, but it was no problem to find a place to eat.

Kamari beach is long, with black small lava stones, there is often large waves and the water becomes quickly deep.

Prices? Yes, we were warn from home, so nobody went  hungry in bed, but the Island is about 50-100% more expensive from other places in Greece.

Århus Charter, Summer Dream, hotel room with breakfast - little refrigerator, TV, air-condition and little swimming pool.
Close to beach and shopping.
