Thassos

A little about Thassos

To Thassos  from Copenhagen airport 6.30 o'clock. It is very early, when You have to go from Jylland. From Copenhagen to Kavala on mainland - fifteen minutes bus transfer to ferry in Keramoti, waiting 1 hour to drink a nice cold ice coffee.
The boat trip to Thassos town takes about 1  hour, onboard  we found a place in  the shadow -  August month. We was traveling with Spies and had chosen to live in Limenaria, with Ving You can  choose between Thassos town and Limenaria.

Then we had 45 minutes bus transfer to Limenaria town along the west coast, but we were tired, so we did not see very much.
We think this must be a long trip for families with small children, but we do not regret, and we would like to do the trip again. Thassos is not so big - hundred km round - so to rent a car in many days is not necessary, one good scooter/motorbike can do it.

Panagia, which lies north east, is an old mountain village - and absolutely worthy to visit - but be prepared to meet a lot of tourists. Take a walk in the small narrow streets. Then You can finish to drink a ice coffee on the platia, and look at the local life.

The trip along the east coast is very beautiful, and here are a lot of beaches, small and big.

The convent Archangèlou Michaïl we had read should be so beautiful, but unfortunately you only get permission to go round very few places, and the church was closed too.
With our scooter we drove up to many small mountain villages, our favorite became anyway Maries, here is very local and on the little kafenion, which lies over the "main street", You can sit and watch, when baker and fish van comes to town. The little dirt road there goes further in over the Island, and is navigable on scooter.

More photos from Thassos

Every Monday there is a giant market in Neos Prinos, and here You can buy  Everything.

Limenaria is a nice little town, where You can find a lot of taverns, music bars, souvenir shops etc.
The price level is fair, our favorite places became Il Mare on sea front, all the food here was nice and also the service.
In Limenaria You can walk along the seafront and a little port, here You also can find a place to sit down and look the life/people passing by.

In the main street there is a little place Koytzabakia, not to see very much from the street, but behind there is a "garden", and here you can eat very cheap or talk with the host Nikos, tell him what You want, maybe a giant veal chop  - here were also live music every evening.

Spies, Anna Hotel,  1.room flat, can not be recommend (it turned out, that Spies only have three cellar apartments, and one at 1. and second floor.
And I really could not understand, how the travel company could sell a balcony in a cellar ?? Well, later we got some money back.
But You can very easy find  hotels and rooms to rent in Limenaria.
